We might be nearing the end of January but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to set goals for 2018. But how exactly do you set and achieve your objectives, anyway? Well in this week’s blog, we provide some helpful hinters for creating and obtaining your goals this year.
1) Be honest
While it’s good to dream big and be aspirational, you want to make sure your goals are realistic at the end of the day. Otherwise, you’re basically setting yourself up for failure. Not reaching a goal can be incredibly disheartening so make sure you follow the correct steps to create an objective you can actually reach.
2) Frame it positively
It’s easy to frame a goal in a negative way. For example, don’t eat junk food, don’t get lazy with workouts on the weekends. However, when you create a goal or resolution that starts with a contraction (I.e. shouldn’t, wouldn’t, can’t, won’t, don’t), you’re creating the goal in a negative framework.
It’s time to take a different approach. Choose to frame your goal/s positively. Focus on what you want to do instead of what you don’t want to do.
3) Keep it simple
When we start thinking of what we might want to achieve, it’s easy to end up with a long list of resolutions. However, you only have so much time, money and patience to make these goals happen. So make sure to keep it simple and create a few, solid goals you truly want to achieve.
4) Write them down
The best way to make a goal seem real is to write it down. This solidifies the goal and creates an expectation that will make you more likely to achieve it.
